Frequently Asked Questions

As an international student, why do I need an Ontario Secondary School Diploma when applying to universities?

In Ontario, Canada, applications for admission to undergraduate and professional degrees are all submitted to and processed by the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). For undergraduate applications, applicants are categorized into one the two groups: (1) Current Ontario Secondary School Students (OUAC 101), and (2) All Other Undergraduate Applicants (OUAC 105). Historical statistics has shown that universities and colleges generally tent to give OUAC 101 applicants priority over OUAC 105 applicants, and the admission success rate for OUAC 101 applications has been recorded as high as 90%. Moreover, OUAC 101 applications are not required to take or pass an English Language Test (TOEFL or IELTS).

Students enrolled in our Ontario High School Diploma courses would immediately become registered Ontario Secondary School students, and, upon completion of the required courses, students will receive Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). In their application for admission to universities or colleges, our students will therefore be categorized into OUAC 101 group, which would generally lead to a higher admission success rate.

Why do I need Advanced Placement (AP) credits?

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program created by the US College Board, which was founded in 1900 to expand access to higher education. Today, the membership association is made up of over 6,000 of the world’s leading educational institutions and is dedicated to promoting excellence and equity in education. Advanced Placement (AP) offers college level curricula and examinations to high school students and helps hundreds of thousands of high school students achieve their college dreams each year. By taking AP courses, students can prove to universities and colleges that they have what it takes to succeed in an undergraduate environment. Furthermore, by making it through an AP course and scoring successfully on the related AP Exam, students can save on college expenses. Currently more than 90 percent of colleges and universities offer college credits.

Through the collaboration with our partner The Virtual High School (VHS School Code: 221356), an established American organization offering online and distance education programs, we provide our students with access to a series of Advanced Placement course authorized by the College Board.

How to be a suitable online learner?

In most cases, this form of course delivery works well to support all types of learning styles. Students should have the motivation to excel, have familiarity with basic computer applications (word processor, web browser), and possess the ability to work independently. Remember there is also an Ontario trained and certified teacher assigned to assist, encourage and communicate with you and will be able to help you achieve your goals in the course.

What is the role of the teacher?

The primary responsibility of the teacher is that of a facilitator…one who supports all learners to be successful in the course. This is achieved through answering questions via email, scheduled office hours, monitored threaded discussions and chat topics, providing valuable feedback on evaluations and providing multiple opportunities to demonstrate learning.

How long does it take to do an online course?

One of the greatest features of on-line learning is the flexibility it provides in allowing you to customize your schedule to complete the course at your own pace. Course progress is measured on the completion of the assignments, discussions and summative evaluations. You can login to your course and work at any time and at any pace.

What do I need to get started?

You will need a computer; either PC or Mac will run the course content. (Please see the PC requirements tab). You will also need an email address, any type will be fine so long as it can send and receive attachments and lastly you will need a reliable and preferably high-speed internet provider.

Do you have a refund policy?

If you decide that these courses are not what you expect, 75% of courses paid for will be refunded if claimed within 7 days. We have to retain 25% for incurred transaction and administrative fees. All registration fees are not refundable.
