CWNP Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA-109) FAQs: Cost, Training, Value

Is the CWNA - Certified Wireless Network Administrator worth it?

Yes, for IT professionals who'd like to specialize their skills and knowledge into wireless networking, the CWNA is a great way to prove your experience and boost your resume. The CWNA could even be useful for an IT professional who doesn't want a career in wireless administration but would still like to expand their work responsibilities with the capabilities that a foundation in wireless technologies and implementations can provide.

How much does the CWNA cost?

The CWNA exam costs $274.99 to attempt. It's a 90-minute exam with 60 multiple-choice questions. There are no prerequisites for the CWNA, you can take it at any time. However, CWNP recommends having the Certified Wireless Specialist (CWS) and Certified Wireless Technician (CWT) before attempting the CWNA, which can help you prepare for what their exams are like and give you a foundation in the knowledge you'll be tested on.

How hard is the Certified Wireless Network Administrator exam?

Most people who take the CWNA exam agree that with adequate preparation, it's not an especially difficult exam. A word of warning, though: the CWNA exam isn't just about practical knowledge related to wireless administration – it's also about proving familiarity with industry best practices according to CWNP. So even though it's not especially hard, you'll want to be properly prepared for some 'by the book' questions that could be tricky without studying.

Does the CWNA - Certified Wireless Network Administrator expire?

Yes, the CWNA certification expires – it's good for three years from the date you earn it. Recertifying requires passing one of CWNP's professional-level certifications (such as CWSP, CWDP, or CWAP) before your CWNA expires. Every lower-level certification gets automatically renewed for three years when you earn a professional CWNP certification. Alternatively, you can retake the CWNA certification exam, but will have to pay full price.

Is the CWNP CWNA cert good for beginners?

Yes, the Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) is a good place for beginners to wireless networking to begin. Designed as a foundation for CWNP's professional and expert-level certifications, the CWNA covers the day-to-day basics of managing wireless networks. So if you want a career in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting wireless networks of any size, the CWNA can prove your readiness to an employer and prepare you for more advanced work.
