Fortinet NSE 7 - Enterprise Firewall FAQs: Cost, Training, Value

Is the Fortinet Certified Solution Specialist - Network Security certification worth it?

Yes, the FCSS - Network Security certification from Fortinet is worth it for any mid-career network security professionals who need to document their knowledge of and expertise with Fortinet solutions in an enterprise security infrastructure environment. In other words, if you work a network security job for a network operated by Fortinet (or if you want to), the FCSS - Network Security is worth it because it proves you have the skills and knowledge necessary to keep it safe and secure.

How much does the FCSS - Network Security certification cost?

On October 1, 2023, Fortinet updated the structure of their certifications, and standardized the price of their certification exams at the same time. All Fortinet certifications with 2 certifications cost $200 for each exam. NSE 7 - Enterprise Firewall is the core exam for the FCSS - Network Security certification, which requires both the core exam and an additional elective to earn. That means the NSE 7 - Enterprise Firewall exam costs $200 but the entire cert costs $400.

Is the NSE 7 - Enterprise Firewall certification exam difficult?

Yes, the NSE 7 - Enterprise Firewall exam is a challenging test of your direct knowledge of integrating, administering, troubleshooting, and centrally managing an enterprise network firewall solution. In addition to that, you need to prove your ability to do so using Fortinet proprietary technology like FortiOS, FortiManager, and FortiAnalyzer. If you plan to earn the FCSS - Network Security, be prepared for a difficult certification exam that blends practical network management skills with technical knowledge.

Does the FCSS - Network Security expire?

Yes, at the same time that they updated their certifications and standardized pricing, Fortinet also applied a new rule for their certifications: all Fortinet certifications have an expiration date. Usually that expiration is two years from the date it's earned. The FCSS - Network Security expires two years after all its requirements are completed, and it can be renewed by retaking both the core exam and any elective exam again or by earning the FCX (expert-level) certification.

How to study for the NSE 7 - Enterprise Firewall certification exam?

Passing the FCSS - Network Security certification exam requires proving technical ability with large-scale enterprise network security configuration while also demonstrating hands-on skills with Fortinet tools and technologies. You probably don't have an enterprise network where you can just try out different security configurations, so find simulations and virtual labs. Courses with those will show you how to write and apply new configurations in spaces that aren't at risk of real-world catastrophe if something goes wrong.
