Professional Scrum Master (PSM) II Certification

You do not need PSM I as a formal prerequisite, but you should have a solid working knowledge of Scrum before you attempt PSM II. The assessment assumes you already understand the framework's structure and events. If you are still learning the basics, start with PSM I first. This course is not an introduction to Scrum.

PSM II is significantly harder. PSM I checks that you know the roles, events, and artifacts. PSM II uses scenario-based questions that require you to reason through messy situations with no obvious right answer. The questions test judgment, not recall. You will need to think about what a skilled Scrum Master would actually do, not just what the Scrum Guide says.

The PSM II assessment is 30 questions, timed at 90 minutes, and requires an 85% passing score. Many questions are scenario-based with multiple correct answers, which means partial credit is possible but so is partial loss of credit. Because the questions are situational, preparation that focuses only on memorizing definitions will not be enough. You need practice with how to think through the scenarios.

It depends on what you want to do with it. PSM II signals that you can handle more than basic Scrum facilitation. It shows you understand people dynamics, organizational change, and coaching. If you work with leadership, run retrospectives on struggling teams, or want to move into an Agile coaching or senior Scrum Master role, the credential is a useful signal. If you are early in your Scrum career, PSM I is the better starting point.

Upskilling an individual improves one role; training an entire team changes how work actually gets delivered. When Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Developers take this together, you eliminate the misalignments that cause missed sprint goals, bloated backlogs, and costly rework.
