Palo Alto Network Security training FAQs

Which certification is best for network security?

The "best" network security certification is going to come down to your environment. The Palo Alto Network Security Professional is great if you work in a Palo Alto ecosystem. Comparable certifications would be Cisco’s CCNP Security, Fortinet’s NSE certifications, or Check Point’s CCSA/CCSE. Cisco leans more toward routing and security integration, Fortinet focuses heavily on FortiGate deployments, and Palo Alto emphasizes application-layer inspection and SASE architecture. If your company runs Palo Alto firewalls and Prisma services, NetSec-Pro is the most relevant. If you’re vendor-agnostic or in a mixed environment, broader certifications might make more sense.

What's on the Network Security Professional exam?

The NetSec-Pro exam has six sections: Network Security Fundamentals; NGFW and SASE Solution Functionality; Platform Solutions, Services and Tools; NGFW and SASE Solution Maintenance and Configuration; Infrastructure Management and CDSS; and Connectivity and Security. Each section will require familiarity with Palo Alto-specific hardware and virtual NGFWs, Cloud NGFW, Prisma Access, Prisma SD-WAN, and management tools like Strata Cloud Manager. You’ll need to understand application-layer inspection, decryption, remote user security, network hardening, and how SASE concepts apply in hybrid environments. It also touches on AIOps and Zero Trust principles.

How hard is the NetSec-Pro exam?

The Palo Alto Network Security Professional is a challenging exam. Earning the NetSec-Pro takes an understanding of how Strata firewalls, Prisma Access, Prisma SD-WAN, and cloud NGFWs operate in deployments. You’ll need to understand configuring policies, decryption, remote access, and management tools like Strata Cloud Manager. Network security guru Keith Barker designed this Palo Alto network security professional course to cover every exam domain on the official blueprint, making sure you’re exam-ready.

How much do Palo Alto certifications cost?

Palo Alto certification exams cost between $150 and $300, depending on the level. Entry-level certifications like the Cybersecurity Apprentice cost around $150. More advanced certifications like the Palo Alto Network Security Architect or Security Operations Architect are about $300. The Network Security Professional exam falls in the mid-range and costs $200. Compared to many enterprise certifications, Palo Alto exams are affordable.

What is the highest certification from Palo Alto?

The highest certifications from Palo Alto are the Security Operations Architect and the Network Security Architect. Palo Alto has four tiers of certification: Foundational, Professional, Specialist, and Architect sitting at the top. Palo Alto also structures its certifications across three major platforms: Network Security, Security Operations, and Cloud Security. Architect-level certifications are meant for senior engineers and architects designing large-scale security strategies, not just implementing configurations. The Network Security Professional is in the second tier (professional) and proves a network security professional has a solid foundation and is ready for operational responsibilities and decision-making.

Who is Palo Alto Network Security training for?

This course is for network and security professionals eager to move into operational cybersecurity roles with Palo Alto technologies. This course helps formalize your skills in working with Palo Alto’s NGFW.
