Yes, for most people the Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate is worth it. It's an especially good certificate for administrators who are just starting their careers. Azure might do a lot of the networking, compute and storage work for you, but companies still need someone to monitor and configure the resources. Additionally, the Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate is worth it purely because of how many companies rely on Microsoft Azure.

How much does the Azure Administrator Associate cost?

The Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate costs $165. It has only one exam, Exam AZ-104: Microsoft Azure Administrator, and since the cert has no prerequisites, you don't have to pay for other exams or certs before attempting it. Consider adding the cost of training and preparation to the $165 cost of the Azure Administrator Associate, though, because you only get one attempt per purchase, and the pass rate is far from 100%.

How difficult is the Azure Administrator Associate exam (AZ-104)?

Microsoft doesn't publish the pass/fail rate for its certifying exams, but some internet sources claim that the pass rate for the AZ-104 practice exams is 80% and it's not hard to find posts and messages from people who failed the AZ-104 on their first and second attempts. For someone with no previous experience with hybrid cloud administration whatsoever, the AZ-104 will be challenging, but with sufficient hands-on training beforehand, it's not an especially difficult exam.

Does the Azure Administrator Associate expire?

Yes, essentially all of Microsoft's certifications expire one year from the date they're earned. The Microsoft Azure Administrator is good for one year, but renewing your credential is free and fairly easy. Within six months of it expiring, you can take a free renewal certifying exam which covers updates to the technologies and career field since the last exam version.

Is the Azure Administrator Associate and its exam (AZ-104) good for beginners?

Yes, the Azure Administrator Associate is a good certification for newcomers to the network and cloud administration career field. That doesn't mean you should attempt the exam without any preparation or study, though.
