Staying True to Our Values and Mission Two Decades Later

For the past two decades, our mission has been to continually improve the effectiveness of learning for IT pros. As an independently-owned company, we've been able to stay true to our core values and ideas in a rapidly changing and growing IT training landscape. Delivering a world-class learning experience for learners drives us every day.

Founder Dan Charbonneau was an IT trainer in 1999 when he had the idea that became CBT Nuggets. He wanted to make IT training more accessible, enjoyable, and affordable for individuals and teams alike. To him, learning IT shouldn't require attending in-person classes or boot camps that are expensive and take time away from family or work. 

Dan recorded the first CBT Nuggets training videos that he and his wife, Johnna Charbonneau, then sold on CDs. More than 20 years later, our training is delivered via high-quality streaming videos and is accessible 24/7 to IT pros throughout the world. Learners can train whenever they want, wherever they want. 

We've come a long way since those humble beginnings. The number of learners we serve has grown but we've remained independently-owned — and run by a lean and expert team based out of Eugene, Oregon. We are also proud to be veteran- and woman-owned. 

While we could have gone the route of outsourcing, training is the heart of what we do. Therefore, it's designed in-house by a small team of the best technical trainers on the planet. Unlike most of our competitors, we focus strictly on IT-related training. Keeping operations close to home helps us ensure every piece of content created is of the highest quality and will produce the best possible outcomes for our learners.

For us, it's about quality over quantity. You won't find hundreds of trainers here. Instead, our team of 20+ trainers are renowned experts in their field who bring years of real-world experience to each and every one of their videos. More importantly, they are invested in the success of our learners. To that end, their training is never scripted and is created in a way that mimics a one-on-one teaching experience. Being able to foster and create connections is paramount.
